How to Set Up an eSIM on Your Smartphone

Setting up an eSIM on your smartphone is usually quick and straightforward. First, make sure your device supports eSIM and is unlocked. Then go to your phone’s settings, find the mobile or cellular section, and choose the option to add an eSIM or mobile plan. Most providers will give you a QR code—scan it with your phone and follow the on-screen instructions to install the profile.

Once the eSIM is added, you’ll be asked to label the plan (for example, “Travel” or “Work”) and choose how it should be used—for mobile data, calls, or as a secondary line. It’s a good idea to connect to Wi-Fi during setup to avoid interruptions. Activation usually takes a few seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on the provider and network.

After activation, check that the eSIM is selected as your active data line and that mobile data is turned on. If you’re traveling, you may also need to enable data roaming. Once everything is set, your phone should connect to the network automatically, and you’re ready to use your eSIM just like a physical SIM—without ever opening the SIM tray.
