GSMA’s eSIM LITE2 November 2019
GSMA’s eSIM LITE2, held in November 2019, marked an important milestone in the development of the global eSIM ecosystem. The event was the second Live Interoperability Testing Event organized by the GSMA, bringing together mobile network operators, device manufacturers, eUICC suppliers, SM-DP+ platform providers, and testing companies. Its main purpose was to validate how GSMA eSIM standards work in real-world, multi-vendor environments.
During eSIM LITE2, participants focused on testing the interoperability of eSIM profiles across different devices and infrastructures. This included validating profile download, installation, and activation processes, as well as checking security domains and file system structures after profile installation. By running these tests in a collaborative setting, the industry was able to identify technical issues early and work collectively on solutions.
Overall, eSIM LITE2 played a key role in strengthening confidence in eSIM technology and accelerating its commercial adoption. While it did not introduce new specifications, the event helped refine existing GSMA standards and ensured greater reliability and consistency across the ecosystem. These efforts laid a solid foundation for the widespread use of eSIM in smartphones, wearables, and IoT devices worldwide.
