Which phones support eSIM? Complete 2026 compatibility list

Roughly 80% of smartphones sold since 2022 support eSIM. Here's the full list and the gotchas.

iPhone — every iPhone since 2018

• iPhone XS, XS Max, XR (the original eSIM iPhones)
• iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
• iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
• iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
• iPhone 14 family (US iPhone 14+ is eSIM only — no physical SIM tray at all)
• iPhone 15 family (same — US versions eSIM only; rest of world keeps a physical tray)
• iPhone 16 family
• iPhone SE 2020 (2nd gen) and SE 2022 (3rd gen) — both support eSIM

Samsung Galaxy — S20 and newer

• Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra and all S-series since
• Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra
• Galaxy Z Fold 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
• Galaxy Z Flip 1, 3, 4, 5, 6
• Galaxy A55 (mid-range — eSIM since 2024)
• Galaxy S25 series — dual-eSIM on most regional variants (check before buying — some carrier SKUs disable the second slot)

Older Galaxy phones (S10, Note 10, A-series before A55): physical SIM only.

Google Pixel — Pixel 3 and newer

• Pixel 2 — first Pixel with eSIM, but only on Google Fi for a long time
• Pixel 3, 3 XL — first Pixel with eSIM widely supported across carriers
• Pixel 4, 4 XL, 4a
• Pixel 5, 5a

Other brands

OnePlus: OnePlus 11 and newer (Open, 12, 13). Earlier OnePlus phones — no eSIM.

Xiaomi: Xiaomi 12T Pro, 13 series, 14 series. Older — usually no eSIM (Xiaomi was slow on this).

Huawei: P40 series (no Google Services though, which limits travel apps), older Huaweis no eSIM.

Sony: Xperia 5 IV, 10 IV, 1 V and newer.

Motorola: Edge 50, Razr 50 — yes. Most older Motorolas — no.

The carrier-locked gotcha

An iPhone bought through Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile in the US is locked to that carrier until you complete the financing contract (typically 6 months to 2 years). A locked phone might let you scan a foreign eSIM QR — and then refuse to activate it. Check Settings → General → About → look for "Network Provider Lock". If it says anything other than "No SIM restrictions", call your carrier.

Same applies to phones bought from EE, Vodafone, Three, O2 in the UK, and Bell, Rogers, Telus in Canada.

Refurbished phones

Refurbished phones sold by AppleCare or Samsung Care are unlocked and eSIM-compatible. Refurbished phones sold by random eBay sellers — check before you buy. The hardware supports eSIM but the lock state may be carrier-bound.
